My Story
The beginning of my story is very similar to many others', and yet very unique as well. In the Fall of 2010, when I found Scentsy, I was a mum to two amazing little boys, had a degree in Social Work, and was a proud military spouse! I grew up in Alberta, and we had just moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to our 4th home, and 3rd province in only 6 short years of Marriage. My husband had done two deployments to Afghanistan, numerous courses and training exercises away from home, and had just been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and major depression. I'd picked up and re-started my career several times, re-decorated a new house 4 times, had two children, lost two pregnancies; and as you're probably guessing – had started to lose myself, and forgotten about how to take care of ME. I had gone away to Moncton on a much needed weekend alone (with the baby of course), when Scentsy was presented to me. A friend from my days in Social Work had posted on her Facebook page about her new business with Scentsy and how they needed consultants in the Maritimes. The time was right, and I asked for more information. I ended up spending that weekend messaging back and forth with her, and searching the internet for everything I could find on Scentsy. I couldn't find ONE single bad thing about this company and I was instantly sold on the whole concept of a wickless candle!! The warmers looked beautiful, and the scents even just sounded amazing, but to be able to make my house smell amazing, without worrying about flame or smoke, or my children burning themselves in the hot wax – I was SOLD!! Best of all, I had tried Direct Sales before and failed, but I could see the potential for how I could actually be successful with Scentsy. Yes, the fact that I would be one of the first consultants in the province helped. But it was the passion and excitement of my friend for all of the amazing things she had already experienced with the company, and what I saw online, and how much I believed her that the product really would just sell itself because of its quality, uniqueness, and affordability, that I knew this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up!!! It didn't take me long to see what the difference was with Scentsy and why there had been such amazing success and growth for the company. The core company values of Simplicity, Authenticity, and Generosity are integral to everything the company does and permeates down from the owners, corporate staff, and SuperStar Directors, right down to the brand new consultants. We really do see ourselves as one big team working together to help each other find success and build a legacy for ourselves, and our families - for generations to come. The company is always encouraging us to give more than we take and I'm so proud to be a part of something that is always looking for new and better ways to give back. It's now almost 7 years later, and the personal growth and benefits I've gotten from this business, outside of the usual financial and material rewards, is almost too many to even name them all! In September of 2011, I became the first Director in Nova Scotia, and starting in the fall of 2012 I was blessed with sharing in the same joy with some of my team members becoming leaders in the company as well, making me the first Star Director in Atlantic Canada! In the fall of 2013, I was blessed with once again being the first in Nova Scotia, and only the second in Atlantic Canada to promote to the highest title possible of Superstar Director. I have had numerous opportunities to step outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself to new experiences by speaking in front of large and small crowds at various training events. My favourites are the ones I get the opportunity to plan in collaboration with other leaders in the Maritimes and across Canada and the US. It is such a blessing and honour to work with so many empowering and inspirational women and men! I have had the opportunity to take two different friends on two amazing vacations with our annual incentive trips to Punta Cana in 2012, and New York City in 2013! I was recognized as a top earner on each of these trips and even got special extra perks like a spa day, suite upgrade, and seeing Cinderella on Broadway! This past year was a 7 night Caribbean Cruise (my FIRST ONE) and In May of 2014, I was able to fulfill a major bucket list item by going to Athens, and Mykonos, Greece – FOR FREE! That trip was to celebrate the 10th Anniversary and was for the top 100 earners and their guests. It was truly the trip of a lifetime, and had been a dream of mine ever since my Religious Studies classes in University. Even though this wasn’t my first incentive trip, I was still blown away at how much we were spoiled, and the intense bonds that were formed amongst us all in such a short time. I've also traveled to Mexico 4 times (this past January as a cruise from Florida) for our annual leadership training retreat that helps get us motivated for the new year! In July 2012 – I attended my first Scentsy Family Convention in Las Vegas, and was recognized as one of only 12 Canadians to earn the Annual Mentor Award!! In 2013 – Convention was appropriately renamed the Scentsy Family Reunion and in Indianapolis – we were all treated to a private Kelly Clarkson Concert, as well as world renowned speakers like Dr Brené Brown. I was again recognized this time for the consistent performance of my team as one of the top 5 Star Directors in the company (North American region) with the power ranking award! For the 10th Anniversary in St Louis, we were again treated to amazing entertainment from Sarah Bereilles, Train, and Jim Gaffigan – along with top speakers I the industry and fantastic giveaways! We visited Vegas for our annual event again in 2015 and this July I will fulfill yet another bucket list trip and meet my Scentsy Family in Nashville! I don’t list all of these accomplishments to brag – but to show you they’re possible! I am just like you. But I believe in this company, and the amazing people i have met through this company have helped me believe in myself which has allowed me to reach so many goals and dreams I had never thought possible. Scensty loves to reward our hard work and accomplishments, and so rather than making trips and incentives harder to earn – they just make them bigger so they can take more of us as the company grows! My team, Team Wicks Away, now has almost 500 members and is growing daily. We stretch from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, and even into the United Kingdom, United States, and Australia!! Words can not even begin to describe the amazing feeling of these new friendships, and relationships of empowering women and men in running their own businesses. I've learned so much more than just "how to sell wickless candles", and have really shown myself that setting goals, dreaming big, believing in myself, and going for it can make all the difference in the world! And I have to say that watching these women and men reach their goals, earn free trips, pay for Christmas without building their debt, and afford the extras has been the biggest blessing of all to come out of my Scentsy journey! In the spring of 2012, my world was rocked with tragedy that ultimately led to a separation and divorce from my husband. It was one of the hardest times of my life, but thanks to Scentsy, it turned out to also be one of the most rewarding journeys of self-growth. And as we move forward in co-parenting and doing what is best for our boys, I can take comfort in the fact that Scentsy will always be there. I can work my business around my family needs. My oldest son has ADHD with some severe behavior challenges, and my youngest has struggled with speech and language delays as well as various tests for medical disorders when he was a baby, and now possible Tourette's. If it hadn’t been for Scentsy, I would not have had the freedom to be at all of the appointments, consults, tests, assessments, and training courses needed for my kids. Nor would I have had the ability to volunteer at the school and be involved so they know me, or to do the research about each of their conditions that allows me to be their advocate, and the mum that they deserve to give them the best chance in life. I have Scentsy to thank for so many things – but mostly for being like a family, for allowing me to believe in myself, and giving me the opportunity to continue on, and be able to support my family and still be home with my boys during one of the hardest times of my life! I especially love how it is a family business and how the boys love to help me sort and label orders, or label catalogs, and talk to people about the products! They especially love "tasting" the Velata! The best part about my story, though, is that I get to share in so many other wonderful stories through my team, and fellow Scentsy friends. Everyone has a story. Everyone has a “why” that drives them. And everyone has what it takes within them to do this, and to change their life! I would love to show you how and be the one to guide and support you on that journey – because being a part of that is the biggest blessing I could ever get from this business! I am so blessed and thankful that I get to “go to work” every day on my terms, and LOVE what I do, and who I do it with! Life is too short to waste it unhappy.
